A thunderbolt hit me one day after listening to another report about a new piece of software that was suppose to fundamentaly change how people went about their daily lives. I have long forgotten what the new piece of software was, but the spiel went to talk about how the software could possible remap our brain circuitry.
I've listen to this type of speculation for years and thought it plausible, but I'd never done the numbers. This day I did. Your talking about a piece of software that at most is being used by ten percent of the worlds population changing 60,000 years (give or take a millenia) of social evolution.
The thunderbolt is this- no piece of software or hardware is going to fundamentaly change the basic wiring we're born with. Nor will it change the basic wiring of our children.
Tech evangelists will always have incidental proof (e.g., some medical report, a press release) but we are deep enough into the new world that it is obvious what is happening is the exact opposite. Any new piece of technology survives only in some much as it adapt its' function to match our basic wiring.
