The greater and diverse the regional input the more solid the innovation.
An example of ths is the blues music form. When people mention the blues, what they are talking about is electrified Chicago blues circa mid-50's. This music became popularized by southern whites in the form of rock 'n roll.
But Chicago blues wasn't a unique musical innovation developed solely in Chicago. It was was a hybrid developed by musicians who had come to Chicago as part of the mass black migration north.
These musicians played regional blues and adapted their styles to take advantage of the commercial opportunities made available in a large urban area.

One of the best collaborators innovation has is migration. The consolidation of methodology from diverse regions (regionality) was a major for 20th century innovation.
