Clarification

There is a between this site's definition of the ecology of innovation and the definition of innovation ecology that is part of the current business-speak. The ecology of innovation is an exploration whereas the concept of innovation ecology is the manipulation of the innovation process for financial gain.

There's no doubt that research and development can be enhanced by a more holistic approach to creating products. Yet this falls short of what I would call an ecology. The cynic in me might say it's an ecology only because the word holistic is no longer working with the focus groups.

The reality is that innovation encompasses much more than business models. To limit it to profit margins is to miss much of the nuance that is at the core of the discussion I'm trying to engage in with this website.
