This means that some things are difficult to change not because individuals are against the change, but because the methodology of an institution is configured in such a way as to make change very difficult.
In these case the best course of action is not to focus on the moral factors in Unknownnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-19338680.post-41797566437320649612012-12-26T20:04:00.000-08:002012-12-28T10:46:00.408-08:00Innovation creates change then social tension
Regardless how innovation is created it will create change. In the characteristics section I try to go more into the specifics of this dynamic.
This dynamic leads to social tension because there will always be a portion of the society that will hate the change. The roots of this hate can be uncertainty or something similar.
The social tension can manifest itself in anything from a Unknownnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-19338680.post-49686900928313570052012-12-20T17:13:00.000-08:002013-05-18T19:24:56.650-07:00The elephant crusadeListening to the current crop of republicans, it's obvious what the play is. They are trying to maintain socio-economic segregation by economic means. Their current policies can be traced back to the mid-70's when there was a strong reaction to the implementation of anti-racist legislation.

Innovation ecology (IE) is the process by which thoughts become innovation. In the definitions I call this an invention lifecycle.
It goes from thoughts, to ideas, to inventions to innovation. Thoughts are the reflections of what we see around us. With innovation being those inventions which are useful.
How inventions become useful to a culture has to do with the needsUnknownnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-19338680.post-9795396878840802972012-10-09T09:05:00.000-07:002012-12-31T17:44:28.320-08:00Mono-Industry
The business model of developing an environment specifically tailored for capital profit from innovation is akin to introducing a foreign (invasive) element in order to take care of a specific need, without taking into account it's impact on the rest of the environment.

Granted that the level of change is so ramped up at the moment that this is the reality faced by many, but still something should be said about environment specific configurations.
This is on my mind this morning because the place were I work at has turned to the Web 2.0 Unknownnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-19338680.post-44425353153984244502012-07-04T12:37:00.001-07:002013-06-01T21:00:21.411-07:00IntroductionInnovation's impact is not linear, meaning that an invention will impact more than what it was created for. Rather than a series of singular events, innovation is an ecology unto itself. The complexity of which has made our relationship to it akin to our relationship with the weather.
The factors that go into the formation of weather patterns are so complex it is difficult to predict how an Unknownnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-19338680.post-80967727716074517592012-06-20T16:45:00.000-07:002012-08-02T16:46:47.050-07:00Lewis Mumford quote

Part of her premise is that our culture favors extroverts at the expense of alienating the skills introverts bring to the table.
This got me thinking that this extrovert bias might be because of our view of innovation.
Progressive innovtion tends to favor the less reflective more reactive attitude.Unknownnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-19338680.post-60371379912613985362012-05-04T07:54:00.001-07:002012-07-17T16:06:07.376-07:00Tech-abled or tech-encumberedPeople are either tech-able or tech-encumbered. It either helps someone in their day to day or it encumbers them.
Tech is not always made to enable you, meaning that not all the tech you encounter is made to make your tasks easier. But there is always some tech in your life so the trick is to navigate all tech in a way to live your life in a less encumbered manner.

Except that instead of a commodity, it's the wealth derived from the distribution of information that is stake. It feels different from Silicon Valley speak in that the actually technology is less the talking point, replaced by the marketing involved.

The reason being that the daily tasks, such as going to the library or buying a pair of pants, forces interaction with the physical community.

I think some of the issues we are facing today have to do with dealing with the mechanics of a democracy:
It's expensive
Assuring the equal treatment for all is expensive. This means an implicit agreement by the majority to endow the education, health and general well being of all.

Different views can be divided in thought clusters - each with their own take on innovation:

Red narrative (Republican): capitalist, unfailing, binary (yes/no), consumption is good
Blue narrative (Democratic): progressive-cautionary, green morality, new-capitalist,Unknownnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-19338680.post-58062291708121982292012-03-22T11:17:00.000-07:002012-07-21T11:17:50.555-07:00Some issues driving politicsLoss of privacy needed to compromise. I really think there needs to be some level of privacy in DC in order to allow for compromises that might be popular, but progress the agenda in a more rational manner.
Loss of local politics. The saying all politcas are local is no lo longer true. Increasingly in the local school boards are becoming national elections.

They express the feeling that it's getting impossible to sell an idea simply on it's merit, regardless how valid the idea is.
This is a good problem because it's bringing the issue to the table. There is an assumption when this argument is made that there was a time when logic ruled the world and good ideas where implemented.

A balanced economy is one where the different strata in the economy are made secured from critical failure and are managed in the most economical way possible.Unknownnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-19338680.post-15742833464525771132012-01-21T13:59:00.000-08:002012-07-16T17:16:40.525-07:00Some Take-AwaysHere are what I think are some take-aways :
Methodology is as important as technology
Very little is written about how technlogy is implemented yet this is as important, if not more importat than the technology itself. In fact most of the problems we face from technology are more in methodological than technological.
An example of this is the energy issue. There are more practical solutionsUnknownnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-19338680.post-26409469831188193902012-01-12T09:05:00.000-08:002012-07-16T17:10:26.284-07:00How did Darwin evolve? In surfing some sites in regards to Darwin, evolution, creationism, et al. an interesting idea came to mind: adaptation works.
By this I don't mean that Darwin's theory of evolution is irrefutable--nothing that far reaching. I simply mean that the kernel of that idea - that something becomes stronger by adapting to its surroundings - is correct.
Even if Darwin's theory of Unknownnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-19338680.post-83525256772515895102012-01-11T12:29:00.000-08:002012-07-16T17:05:49.046-07:00Crowd Innovating (notes)New type of innovation generator:
crowd innovating :
Innovation done thru mass appeal
Match up to Silicon valley funds similar to Hollywood (popularity drives funding)
Example of this Kickstarter
Other innovation generators:
Adaptive - data driven and holistic
Progressive - Intuitive and self-gain

If so, how it will react in different environments could also be predictable.
